Theme:  War in Iraq

Rules:
    1. Must be a completely new image. No submitting of an old one, I will check your gallery.  ;) 2. Image can be from any medium, or combinations of mediums (mixed media).  Just about any main gallery will work, be creative. 3.  Image can be from any themed angle.  Doesn't matter if you are pro or con, want to show military images, city images, or how the people are responding to the war.  This opens it up for images from the home front and from Iraq. 4.  Size is only restricted by current DA gallery limits. 5.  Send me a link with your entry piece using the DA note system.  Only notes will be accepted, a folder will be created to hold all the entry notes.  Comments in journals and on my page will not be included in the voting. 6.  Contest runs from the 27th of May to the 8th of July.  Six weeks to be creative.  All entries must be submitted to DA between this time period.

Judging
    1.  Images will be judged by a point system.
      A.  50 pts for artistic quality. B.  25 pts for creativity. C.  25 pts for capturing the theme.
    2.  In the event of a tie, a poll will be held to determine who wins. 3.  Medium has no factor in points, each has it's own difficulties that must be mastered by the artist.  The 50 of the total 100 points are given to take this into consideration. 4.  So far it's LottnessMonster, cosmosue, fourteenthstar, and myself judging.  If you wish to participate as a judge, convince me to let you help.  I am willing to have a panel of five decide the winners. 5.  Final point breakdowns for the top images will be posted when the winners are announced.  Please don't ask me how your image ranked if you did not win.

Prizes
First Place:  any canvas print of your choice. Second Place:  Any non-canvas print of your choice. Third Place:  1 year subscription. Substitutions will be allowed for prizes if reasonable.  Keep in mind, shipping and handling will be taken into account if a substitution is made.

Background

When I was a director, I tried to help the political galleries but it never seemed like I did enough for this type of art, other areas always needed attention.  Add to that, I love the photojournalism sections.  Of all the art that gets submitted regularly, political and photojournalism images never get enough credit and exposure so I figured I'd run a contest specifically with this in mind.

Another thing that interests me is how the war is perceived world wide. I was a US Marine during the first gulf war, my interest in this war is anything but limited.  DA is an internationally know site, I'm eager to see how an international group of artists approach this subject.  All we seem to get fed daily from the news is the battle between the democrats and republicans on how to fund the war, and how many troops have been killed daily.  I'd like to see another side of this conflict, specifically an artistic side.  For ages artists have been painting, drawing, sculpting, and photographing war events, let's keep the history alive with this contest.

Note:  if for any reason something wasn't covered, please let me know A.S.A.P. so adjustments can be made.
